Low carbon vehicle plans Print E-mail
Monday, 29 June 2009
electriccar.jpgOn Monday 29 June 2009 the Scottish Government published a consultation on their plans to ensure that 95% of new vehicles on Scotland's roads in 2020 will be electric or low carbon.  Announcing the consultation, Stewart Stevenson linked the plans to last week's passing of the Climate Change Bill by the Scottish Parliament.

The target for local authority vehicles in the consultation is much higher, at 100% of all vehicles in local authority fleets being electric or low carbon by 2020.  It does make you think that there is more intention to use stick rather than carrot, especially as the local authority fleet is already significantly younger, and presumably fuel-efficient, than the rest of the vehicle population.  Still, action is good.  Let's not spend too long talking about it - the government has given us until 2 October 2009 to respond to the consultation, so have a look at the consultation documentation and have your say.

Ranald  - What about caravanners?   |01-07-2009 22:06
Two-wheel drive small cars are OK if you don't have to endure the often appalling road conditions in
the northern half of Scotland. Four wheel drive becomes an essential tool for personal safety -
particularly for those living or having to drive on side roads in winter.
And why is the Government
discriminating against caravanners. It is unsafe to tow a caravan with a small car. More people
are choosing to go on caravan holidays. But they are being penalised by road tax on safer larger
vehicles.
