pulleysheilasmaid.jpgWhilst loads of us are out there trying to find the lowest energy consuming device to dry our clothes in Scotland, your granny probably did better with the low tech solution, the pulley . Surely this should come with an A+ rating at least. OK then not everybody called it a pulley, but you know what I mean. Wooden clothes horse hanging from the ceiling. It was an essential piece of kit for the domestic goddess of the past. No sexist slight intended.

Anyway a company based in Angus, The Domestic Paraphenalia Company specialises in low tech, classic domestic products such as the Sheila's Maid or pulley, wooden clothes dryers as well as that strange concept spare parts. So when ropes break or other bits fail you can replace them without having to buy a whole new set.

When doing up my flat I had the space to put a short pulley in my utility cupboard.

Clothes from
the washing machine take two days to dry. So Ok to use it if you have the time. Good for laying
woolen jerseys on as well. at least most of the jersey is flattish!
