Given the current poor state of the rich economies then surely this is doubly concerning. Surely such inequality cannot continue as it is completely inconsistent with sustainable development.
This report from Office for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) notes that the gap between rich and poor in OECD countries has reached its highest level for over 30 years, and governments must act quickly to tackle inequality. In Britain, income inequality among working-age people has risen faster than in any other wealthy country since the mid-1970s. The report says the gap has come about due to the rise of a financial services elite who, through education and marriage, have concentrated wealth into the hands of a tiny minority. Well there's a surprise then...
Anyway for those that care the popular motto of 'United we stand..etc' is variously attributed to Aesop, he of the many fables from ancient Greek times.
