commongoodland The Prince of Wales is to embark on a tour of the country to meet gardeners, ethical fashion designers and eco-conscious pensioners doing their bit to tackle climate change. The five day journey by train (powered by biofuel) will take in projects up and down the country where ordinary people are making a difference by installing solar panels, planting trees and growing vegetables.

This is part of the Princes’ new initiative ‘Start’ which is a partnership between Non – Governmental Organisations and Businesses to promote a more sustainable way of living. The Prince stated that the initiative’s main aim was about “putting a positive face on what I can only call a sustainability revolution. People are much more likely to act if the message of sustainability is framed in positive terms”

The tour will begin in Glasgow where the Prince will launch ‘Pedal for Scotland’ a charity event that encourages people to get on their bike rather than travel by everywhere by other less environmentally friendly forms of transport.

The Prince will visit Bristol, Manchester and Wales where he will launch other initiatives including a guide for historic house owners which gives tips on ways to make draughty castles more insulated and hence more sustainable. His Royal Highness will also attend an ethical fashion show as well as visiting a scheme that helps the vulnerable among us save energy.

The main aim of the tour is to make ordinary people aware of the fact that they too can make a valuable contribution to the prevention of climate change.

Who's a Charlie

How astonishing, amazing, ironic, mind-boggling, arrogant, insulting, kick in the teeth, patronising (and that's only a start) is this Charles Windsor tour? The main aim, we are told, is to make ordinary people aware of the valuable contribution they can make to climate change. What a cheek! He must think we're the right Charlies. What exactly is the Prince of Wallies carbon footprint? How ordinary is his life or his unearned wealth? What does he know about ordinary folk and their problems. But that's enough - Simpkins is ready to squeeze my toothpaste onto my Duchy Original organic toothbrush, and by the time I've finished swilling and spitting, Arbuthnott will have finished ironing the morming papers.
