Last week saw the official opening of a new recycling facility at Bargeddie in North Lanarkshire, this week it's Recycle Week and time to think about increasing the amount of waste we each separate for recycling.
Recycling isn't just good for the environment, reducing our resource and energy demands, it also saves you money. Make a pledge to make a change and be good to your wallet as well as feeling good about yourself - have a look at the Energy Saving Trust website
for ideas about what others are doing, and let others know what you think you can do to increase recycling in your community. The new Materials Recycling Facility at Bargeddie represents a £7million investment by Viridor Waste Management, and has generated 29 jobs in its operation. It is currently handling 140 tonnes of mixed recyclables a day from local households, still less than goes into landfill from the same area, but a big step in the right direction. You can see more on the operations of a Materials Recycling Facility on the Viridor Waste Management website
