The 2011 British Social Attitudes survey reveals continuing concern about the gap between rich and poor in Britain. Significantly it shows high levels of scepticism and distrust in British society towards current arrangements concerning social issues like welfare, inequality, housing or environment. The British public also increasingly sees individual responsibility as central to personal well-being and shows low levels of willingness to make sacrifices for the common good during challenging times.
The British Social Attitudes survey provides some essential reading for all you researchers, policy makers and anoraks seeking to understand how people’s lives are changing and their views on how Britain is run.
The report is compiled by NatCen Social Research
. You can download it by following that previous link. They say that they are making the survey results freely available online because they want their research to reach and influence more decision makers – to help make people’s lives better. A noble aim.
