cashstock2Energy saving projects throughout Scotland are invited to enter into the EAS EnergySavers Award 2010.  Energy Action Scotland has teamed up with Eaga for the ninth time in order to recognise “excellence in local energy saving initiatives which tackle fuel poverty and improve domestic energy efficiency” offering a 1st prize of £1,500 and £1,000 for runners up.

Projects that have helped improve the energy efficiency or make energy savings in the homes of local people between April 1st 2009 and 31st March 2010 are eligible to apply.  Applicants can include community and voluntary organisations, local authorities, housing associations, health bodies, and individual or organisations involved in energy efficiency issues.  If you meet these criteria the deadline is 1st October 2010, a little over three weeks away so get a move on! Last year’s successful applicants:

1st Prize: The Renewable Heritage Project
Delivered micro generation solutions (solar water heating) to generate electricity helping to heat tenement buildings while reducing energy bills and CO2 emissions.

Joint 2nd Prize: Fintry Community Energy Project:
Established a development trust which secured funding to supply free insulation to homes reducing fuel poverty in the area by 25%.

Joint 2nd Prize: Victorian Tenement Project.
Improved the energy efficiency of Victorian granite flats with very low energy ratings.  Also involved in developing a new method of insulating floored drying lofts.
