Eco-rennovation network
On Saturday 4th, a local organisation recently set up to promote energy efficiency, reduce fuel bills and address climate change will host an 'eco-house doctor' event. Transition Town East Kilbride (1) has attracted top eco-architect, Chris Morgan (2), to identify what practical steps are needed to help many householders save energy and money.

Chris has twenty years experience in ecological design and is particularly interested in making existing homes more energy efficient. The first house under the spotlight is that of Transition Town EK founding member, Kirsten Robb. She lives with her partner in a 1960s three bed roomed mid-terraced house in Calderwood and is interested in insulating her home better, installing a small scale renewable energy device and measures to save water.

Kirsten said, “I'm looking forward to hearing Chris's suggestions about what practical and affordable steps we can take to reduce energy bills and create a healthy environment. As 40% of our emissions contributing to climate change come from houses, it's important to start with existing homes. The idea of the event is that other people with a similar house to us, and that's a lot of people in East Kilbride, can also put their questions to this famous 'eco-house doctor'.”

This event has been set up in collaboration with The Glasgow Eco-Renovation Network (3), a new initiative to make it easier for people to find out and share information on eco-renovation and to reduce costs to people through co-operative buying. Places are limited and cost £10 each, including advice and refreshments.
