lochduartsustainablesalmon.jpgCatrine Community Trust are making a reality of their plans and aspirations and on Friday 26th June their Fish Hatchery was officially opened by MSP Cathy Jamieson. The hatchery aims to increase the stock of trout and grayling in the River Ayr and its tributaries.

In August 2007 the Trust was granted £225,000 to build the hatchery by Forward Scotland`s Environmental Justice Fund, funded by the Scottish Executive to support communities facing a legacy of industrial and environmental damage.

The building was designed by ARP Lorimer , architects and the construction was by Fullwood Holdings . Equipment has been donated from the River Ayr Salmon Fishery Board, Cumnock Angling Club and Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse.

A joint committee of representatives of the Trust and the local Angling Club will undertake the management of the hatchery.
