![]() The plans include formal paths and seating, an area where the Christmas tree can be displayed, and also a multi-use area that can be used for the likes of a local farmers’ market. The grant means that all the money required to complete the project is now in place, and work is expected to start in October. Jeff Frew, Development Officer with Stonehouse Development Trust, welcomed the news. ‘We’re delighted to now have all the money in place to do the work. We’ve spent a lot of time talking with local people, asking what they want to see in the area, and it’s great to know that we can now deliver things on the ground. Part of what we want to do is work with the Wise Group to give up to 10 unemployed people the opportunity to work towards recognised qualifications by working with us. We really believe that this project will make a difference to the lives of people locally.’ Viridor Credits Scotland started accepting applications for funding from projects in Lanarkshire in April 2008. Over £250,000 is available this year for community-led projects to provide general public amenities, restore historic buildings or preserve biodiversity, and the scheme is seeking further applications.
