susitoutplustm.jpgForward Scotland has been awarded funding of over £400,000 by the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland to deliver Sus it Out Plus ™ a community empowerment programme for sustainability. Forward Scotland's programme is based on the Sus it Out tool first developed by the Future Scotland partnership with additional features including support for preparing action plans and access to funding to build skills and experience.

Between September 2009 and April 2011 Forward Scotland is looking to work with 150 groups, new and existing who want to develop in a more sustainable way.

Hello
We are a voluntary association seeking to develop an ill used public space into a vibrant
sustainable space for people. We have completed extensive community consultation and have secured
£10,000 from Inv in Ideas to develop the community's ideas into a fully costed design proposal. We
need to raise more funding for this part .... we will apply to Climate Challenge Fund. Any other
sources of funding I could usefully look at?

The funding thing is tricky.

For the climate challenge fund the end use is what matters, the
activity would need to address climate change issues but I'm sure you will have that in mind.

You
didn't say whether it was land or building.

There are loads of funds out there for buildings but
it would depend on whether it was listed or not. This would narrow the searches down.

You've done
the right thing getting the funds from the Lottery to scope out your project.

Feasibility
funding is harder to come by but lloyds TSB foundation is worth a look as might your local
authority.

Further down the line funds like the landfill communities fund, from landfill tax
might be worth looking for. There are a couple of Edinburgh funders for waste companies WRG and
Viridor. Not really for feasibility work.

Send me an email with more info and we'll see if there
is more sign posting we could do.

Hi there
We are a not for profit community group whose aim is to re build our village hall in
Inverlochy -fort William
We are initially looking for any help and support in developing an action
plan and funding package to ascertain what the local village actually wants from a new hall (half of
the current one has needed to be demolished).
All and any help or signposting much
appreciated
many thanks
Foss

Hi Foss

Sus it Out Plus might be interesting for you itself. Although it isn't going to pay for
the full costs of developing an action plan or a funding package directly at this scale of project,
it can help with training costs to build your own skills, and buy in some external support.

Another
potential source of funding support for these activities is Investing in Ideas from the Big Lottery
Fund, which can give grants of up to £10,000. The fund is still open, at least until end March
2010, and you'll need to show that your proposed project will fit with one of the four investment
areas of the closed Investing in Communities programme - in your case the Growing Community Assets
strand. You can call them on 0141 242 1400 and have a chat about what you are looking to do.

Hope
that helps. Do follow the email link in the main article above and register your interest in Sus it
Out Plus, which will help us keep in touch.

Iain
