The CatStrand is a new arts and community centre in New Galloway, born from a derelict primary school building through the efforts of local people.

The building blends the old and new and is characterised by a sense of openness both physically and operationally.

To achieve sustainability, the CatStrand has had to be as flexible as possible and this has been key to its success. From the range of activities it hosts to how it uses the various spaces within the building, right down to its staff who multi-task and hot desk, flexibility has been built in to every aspect of the centre.
