angry.jpgThere are groups of people in towns and cities up and down the country who like to spend their time resisting the concrete and asphalt occupation of the urban environment by going outside under the cover of, well, day and night and planting flowers, vegetables, shrubs, bulbs and trees where they are needed and maybe throwing a few seed bombs in areas that could do with a bit of love, a bit of life and a bit of greenery.

The boars are back in town Print E-mail

boar.jpgAt the end of last year six wild boar arrived at Dundreggan Estate, purchased by the award winning organisation Trees for Life. This is part of their project to reintroduce native animal species along with replanting a significant proportion of the Caledonian Forest, which used to cover large swathes of the country, but is now just reduced to just 1% of its original area.

povertycredittheindependent2009.jpgThe Links Foundation works in England, Scotland and Wales and was formed by ‘Working Links’, an organisation that delivers services to tackle social exclusion and poverty by helping disadvantaged individuals and communities. It provides grants to disadvantaged communities. Since its launch in 2003 it has distributed over £3 million in grants to over 40 projects.

recyclingcentre.jpgSchools, charities and community groups can apply for products and waste materials through the B&Q Waste Donate Scheme. B&Q operates this Scheme through all of its stores within the UK. B&Q donates products and waste materials they haven’t been able to sell for re-use such as slightly damaged tins of paint, off-cuts of timber, odd rolls of wallpaper and end-of-range materials. Donated products should benefit the local community and the environment and can not be resold.

fruit&veg.jpg Community Food and Health Scotland (CFHS) has announced that their small grant scheme will be open for applications from the 29th April 2010 and will close on the 9th July 2010. Grants from £500 to £4,000 are available to groups and agencies who would like to tackle one or more of the barriers to healthy eating, such as affordability or availability, and the negative impact of culture and lack of food skills.
