ISE10 Washing Machine Print E-mail
Wednesday, 24 September 2008
Not the most exciting decision I've had to take recently, but I had to replace an old Hotpoint machine after it had got REALLY NOISY.  Bearings were away, and it wasn't worth fixing after over 10 years good service, including two young boys through washable nappies!  I'd been able to fix a couple of things myself previously, including the door release and the carbon brushes on the motor, but this I felt this was beyond me, and only likely to put off the day I'd have to bite the bullet anyway.

So I got on the internet, looking for some advice on what to look for in a new machine, and fairly quickly found this.  Expensive, but it includes a 10 year parts and labour warranty, so on balance I thought worth it.  What I really liked, apart from the confidence shown by the manufacturer in their product, were the principles behind it - it's actually designed to be repairable, something that is refreshing in today's throw-away society (or is there something in here about companies wanting us to throw things away and buy new ones?  One friend was advised to have their old washing machine repaired as new ones were so poor...)  It also isn't available on the high street, you have to go to an independent washing machine repair outfit, so straight away you know who will be coming to fix it should anything go wrong - the wee man around the corner, which is great.  Of course around the corner turned out to be a little further away, but the service and care taken in installing the ISE10 (and yes, installation is included in the price) were good to see - for a start they turned up within 5 minutes of when they said they would, and two of them were there for an hour and a half until they were happy that we were happy.

So what's it like?  Only had it a few weeks, but it washes as expected, and has a good range of programmes including a very quick Quick wash.  I don't think it is the quietist on the market, but we can now talk in the kitchen when its on - before anywhere in the house was a challenge!  There is the usual reliance on electronic controls, but there's always the warranty...  However, the last comment from Bill Ellis, who supplied the machine for us, was that he didn't expect to see us again.  I like his confidence as well.
